NBHSA’s Response to the provincial budget

The New Brunswick Home Support Association, representing 44 home care agencies and over 3500 care staff in the province, is pleased to see the government of New Brunswick allocate the much needed funds for wage increases for employees working in senior care. Our hope is that these funds will do more than cover the legislated increase in the minimum wage. Changing needs of seniors and persons with disabilities require improvements to education and training, working conditions, in addition to improved compensation and benefits for staff. This will allow vulnerable New Brunswickers to stay in their homes longer and live healthier, more productive lives as is their expressed desire.

What has been missing to-date are the necessary resources to recruit and retain employees to the levels required to assist with this important task. We look forward to the details addressing these important issues in the near future.
